Description

A rich and comforting creamy sausage pasta skillet made in one pan with tomato sauce, cream, and tender pasta.

Ingredients

1 pound penne pasta

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 cup onion, finely chopped

4 garlic cloves, minced

1 pound turkey Italian-style sausage, casings removed if needed

16 ounces tomato sauce

14.5 ounces diced tomatoes

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Salt, to taste

Black pepper, to taste

3/4 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped (optional)

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the penne according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

2. While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, then cook for about 3 minutes until softened and fragrant.

3. Add the turkey sausage to the skillet. Break it apart with a spoon and cook for 5 to 8 minutes, until browned and fully cooked.

4. Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and red pepper flakes if using. Season with salt and black pepper. Simmer for 2 minutes.

5. Add the heavy cream and butter. Stir until smooth and creamy, then cook for another 2 to 3 minutes.

6. Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss well to coat every piece in the sauce. Let it gently bubble for 1 to 2 minutes.

7. Top with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve hot.

Notes

Adjust spice with red pepper flakes.

Use freshly grated Parmesan for best flavor.

Add a splash of pasta water if sauce thickens too much.
