Description

Crispy golden cheese bites filled with cream cheese, pepper jack, cheddar, and jalapeño for the perfect party appetizer.

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup buttermilk

2 large eggs

1 cup panko breadcrumbs

1 teaspoon garlic salt

1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1 cup whipped cream cheese

2 cups shredded pepper jack cheese

2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 jalapeño, seeded and finely diced

1 to 2 cups vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

1. Pour the vegetable oil into a deep skillet or heavy pot and heat it to 375°F.

2. Set up three shallow bowls. Place the flour in the first bowl.

3. In the second bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and eggs until smooth.

4. In the third bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, garlic salt, Cajun seasoning, black pepper, and paprika.

5. In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the cream cheese, pepper jack cheese, cheddar cheese, and diced jalapeño until evenly combined.

6. Roll the cheese mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet.

7. Coat each cheese ball in flour, then dip it into the buttermilk mixture, and finally roll it in the seasoned breadcrumb mixture until fully covered.

8. Return the coated cheese bites to a lined baking sheet.

9. Freeze for 45 to 60 minutes, or until firm.

10. Carefully fry the frozen cheese bites in batches for 1 to 2 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.

11. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain briefly before serving.

Notes

Freeze before frying to help maintain shape and prevent cheese leakage. Serve immediately for the best texture.
