Description

Flaky puff pastry filled with creamy feta cheese and sweet savory toppings for the perfect party appetizer.


Ingredients

11 ounces ready-rolled puff pastry

7 ounces feta cheese

4 tablespoons caramelized onion spread, cranberry sauce, or spicy honey

1 egg, beaten

1 tablespoon sesame seeds, chopped pistachios, fennel seeds, or caraway seeds for topping


Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 360°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

2. Let the puff pastry sit at room temperature for 15 to 20 minutes so it unfolds without cracking. Lightly flour your work surface and unroll the pastry.

3. Slice the pastry lengthwise into 2 long strips, then cut each strip into 12 equal rectangles for a total of 24 pieces.

4. Pat the feta dry with paper towels. Cut it into 12 evenly sized pieces.

5. Arrange 12 pastry rectangles on the prepared baking sheet. Place one piece of feta in the center of each rectangle.

6. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of caramelized onion spread, cranberry sauce, or spicy honey over each feta piece.

7. Top each bite with another pastry rectangle. Press the edges together with your fingers or seal with a fork.

8. Brush the tops with beaten egg and sprinkle with your choice of seeds or chopped nuts.

9. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

10. Let the bites cool for 5 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Pat the feta dry before assembling to keep the pastry crisp.

Serve warm for the best texture and flavor.

These appetizers can be assembled ahead and refrigerated before baking.
