Description
Crispy, golden mozzarella bites made in the air fryer with a crunchy panko coating and gooey cheese center. Perfect for parties, snacks, and appetizers.
Ingredients
6 string cheese sticks
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon cornstarch
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
2 large eggs, beaten
1 tablespoon milk
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
Nonstick cooking spray
Marinara sauce, for serving (optional)
Instructions
1. Cut each string cheese stick into 3 equal pieces to make 18 mozzarella bites.
2. In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper.
3. In a second bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk.
4. In a third bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs and parsley flakes.
5. Coat each cheese piece in the flour mixture, then dip into the egg mixture, and roll in the breadcrumb mixture.
6. For a thicker, crunchier coating, dip each piece back into the egg mixture and then into the breadcrumbs a second time, pressing gently to help the coating stick.
7. Place the breaded mozzarella bites on a tray or plate and freeze them while the air fryer preheats.
8. Preheat the air fryer to 350°F.
9. Arrange the frozen mozzarella bites in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Spray generously with nonstick cooking spray.
10. Air fry at 350°F for 8 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking.
11. Serve immediately with marinara sauce if desired.
Notes
Freeze the breaded bites before cooking for best results.
Double coating helps prevent cheese leakage.
Serve immediately for maximum crispness.
