Description
Fire crackers are a bold Southern snack made with saltine crackers soaked in ranch seasoning, olive oil, garlic, onion, and crushed red pepper flakes, then baked until crisp and fragrant.
Ingredients
16 ounces saltine crackers (about 4 sleeves)
2 cups olive oil
4 tablespoons ranch seasoning mix
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
3 tablespoons crushed red pepper flakes
Instructions
1. In a large resealable bag, combine olive oil, ranch seasoning mix, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. Seal the bag and gently massage to mix.
2. Add the saltine crackers to the bag. Reseal and carefully rotate the bag several times so the crackers are evenly coated.
3. Let the crackers rest in the bag overnight or about 8 hours so they absorb the flavor.
4. Preheat the oven to 250°F.
5. Arrange crackers in a single layer on a baking sheet.
6. Bake for about 15 minutes until crisp and fragrant.
7. Allow crackers to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Letting the crackers rest overnight helps them absorb maximum flavor.
Store in an airtight container to keep them crisp for several days.
Adjust crushed red pepper flakes to control the spice level.
